Who we are

Established in 1970, Wonderland Humane Society was one of the first animal welfare groups to operate in Northern Michigan. WHS has served many community needs over the years including spay/neuter assistance, pet fostering, humane education and even operating the county animal shelter for a while during a period of funding shortage. More recently, we have given financial assistance to local groups such as the Pit Stop/Save A Buddy Program, Animal Advocates Trap/Neuter/Release, and the Ani-Meals pet food pantry.

WHS is a very small group of people who try to make a difference and need your help to do it. We are your family members, friends, neighbors and coworkers- local community members who love animals and care about their health and welfare. If this sounds like you, please contact us about joining our group, sharing your ideas, and raising funds to help local families and their pets!

What we are

WHS is a tax exempt 501(c)(3) animal welfare volunteer organization. We receive no funding from any governmental agency and we are not affiliated with any larger humane organizations. We are also not part of the Wexford County Animal Shelter and are a completely separate entity.

Where we are

We work out of our homes. We do not have an office or run an animal shelter. Our meetings are open to the public and all are welcome to attend. We will be having quarterly meetings beginning in 2021, with specific dates, time, and location to be determined.  Due to the pandemic limitations on gatherings we may have to meet on Zoom for a while. Please call or follow us on Facebook for updated information.

How we are funded

We are funded by local donations. We have no paid officers or employees, so all of our funding goes to our Spay/Neuter Programs, assisting other local animal organizations, and education projects.

Why we exist

To promote the health and welfare of the animals in our community.

To educate the community about animal welfare and the groups and resources available to help them.

To be a communication link between local animal organizations to better serve and educate the public.
